Issue Management Power BI Dashboard [Multi-Project Power BI Dashboard]
In our previous articles, we explored key pages of the enterprise Power BI dashboard, covering areas like cost control, manpower tracking, procurement, and engineering submittals. Each section was designed to bring clarity and control to specific aspects of complex, multi-project construction environments.
But in real-world execution, projects rarely go exactly as planned. Unexpected challenges, delays, and disruptions often arise, and how teams track, escalate, and resolve these issues is what sets successful projects apart.
In this article, we introduce the Issue Management Dashboard, a dedicated page built to help construction teams monitor and manage project issues as they happen.

Whether the issue is technical, logistical, or related to design or material delays, this dashboard provides a centralized platform to log, prioritize, and follow up on every concern.
Fully integrated into the broader enterprise reporting system, the Issue Management Power BI Dashboard gives project managers, risk teams, and site engineers the visibility they need to act before small problems become project threats.
The structure of this Issue Management Dashboard can be easily duplicated and repurposed to create a Risk Management Dashboard, using similar fields like identification date, priority, status, and assigned owner.
Additionally, many issues are not just site-related; they often involve the quality team (when tied to non-conformities [NCRs] or approvals) or the risk management team (when stopping project risks from evolving ). This makes the dashboard a shared tool across disciplines.

Issue Status
This visual presents a bar chart that tracks the number of project issues raised each month, clearly distinguishing between those that are still open (in blue) and those that have been closed (in orange).
By showing this distribution over time, it becomes easy to understand how issues are being handled throughout the project lifecycle.
For instance, in January 2022, three issues remained open while only two were closed, a sign that some problems were not resolved within the same reporting cycle.
The chart is useful across several roles in a construction environment:
ü Project managers can use it to see if their team is keeping up with issue resolution or falling behind.
ü For the quality team, it helps detect repeated patterns in issue creation, which may be linked to repeated site non-conformities.
ü Risk managers can also benefit, as they can spot if risks identified earlier are now appearing as real issues, and evaluate whether the response plans were effective.
This visual also supports decision-making in several ways:
- It highlights whether issue closure rates are improving, the same, or worsening over time.
- It allows teams to forecast potential resolution workloads based on open issues still carried forward.
- It provides early warning signs when open issues accumulate, allowing intervention before they impact project delivery.
- It serves as a soft KPI to evaluate how responsive each team or discipline is in addressing and closing project concerns.

This visual displays a detailed log of all reported project issues in a structured, easy-to-read table. Each row represents an individual issue and includes key information such as the project number, description of the issue, the date it was identified, and the estimated resolution date.
Alongside these timeline indicators, the table also shows the priority level assigned to each issue (e.g., Critical, High, Low), the action taken to address it (such as Mitigate, Transfer, Accept), its current status (Open or Closed), and the owner responsible for follow-up.
What makes this visual especially powerful is how it transforms a traditionally scattered and manual issue-tracking process into a live, interactive record.
Instead of searching through emails, spreadsheets, or reports, project teams can instantly see the full lifecycle of any issue: when it started, how serious it is, what’s being done about it, and whether it’s been resolved.
This kind of visibility is valuable across all project roles:
ü For project managers, it gives immediate insight into outstanding items and whether they’re being properly escalated.
ü For risk managers, it’s a way to trace how effectively the team is responding to real-world problems.
ü For quality and site engineers, the table helps clarify responsibilities and timelines, ensuring accountability at every level.
Issue Status Filter
This filter allows users to control the visibility of issues in the dashboard based on their current status, either Open or Closed. By simply ticking a checkbox, users can instantly update all related visuals and tables to focus only on the type of issues they want to review.
For example, selecting “Open” will filter the entire dashboard to show only unresolved issues that are still pending action, while choosing “Closed” will limit the view to completed or resolved items.
This feature is especially helpful for project managers who want to focus their attention during meetings on outstanding problems, or for quality and risk teams reviewing historical performance.
Issue Owner Filter
This filter enables users to view project issues based on the team member or role responsible for resolving them.
By selecting one or more roles, such as Project Manager, Risk Manager, Site Engineer, or Team Leader, users can instantly narrow down the dashboard to see only the issues assigned to those individuals.
This is especially useful during reviews or coordination meetings, allowing each team to focus on their own action items without being distracted by unrelated entries.
It helps managers balance workloads by identifying if one team member is handling an unbalanced number of critical or unresolved issues.
Search by Issue
This search bar allows users to instantly locate specific issues by typing keywords or phrases from the issue description.
Instead of scrolling through long tables or applying multiple filters, users can simply start typing a term, like “equipment,” “utilities,” or “design delay”, and the dashboard will automatically highlight all entries containing that word.
Final Thoughts
Building and using an Enterprise Power BI Dashboard transforms how project teams and decision-makers monitor performance, detect risks, and manage resources across multiple projects.
With the right structure and data connections, this dashboard becomes more than a reporting tool, it becomes a live command center for progress and performance.
