Overview
Because Construction Projects are complicated by their natural, companies are very interested not to lose control. Therefore, for time monitoring, there is a time schedule, for Quality Control, there is a QA/QC plan, and for cost, there is a cost control process.
Accordingly, the Cost control process should monitor the Project progress and report any deviation to the budget cost. However, there is no simple way of doing cost control where we can use smart techniques without expensive tools or software.
What makes Is this course different?
Engineers who follow my courses and articles know how I am thinking. I am a practical person who looks for smart solutions to solve construction problems. I have been requested many times to develop a cost control course. However, I took much more time to do it because I wanted to produce something practical and smart. To be honest, it was not an easy job to develop this course since it took me more than 2 years! However, in the end, I am very proud to produce a simple yet effective way of controlling construction project costs.
I have created for you a step by step guide along with the Excel data model to be able to easily monitor any construction project. If you are a planning engineer, you will enjoy it more even by linking your progress update to the cost plan. If you are not a planning engineer, you still can get benefits from the course since I will tell you what you need to know. However, after you take this course, I am sure you will consider learning planning as well.
Watch the video:
We have 3 main reports (however you can do whatever reports you want from the data model) :
1- Cash In and Cash out report:
2- Cost Control Summary Report:
3- Cost Control Detailed Report:
4- This is in addition to the 83 pages PDF manual book.
Is this Everything?
Of course not. With the course data model, you can create whatever reports you want. You have all the data stored in an organized way and you can reuse in any format/reports you want.

How this course work?
This is a recorded course where we have 12 chapters. Each chapter will have all the steps in a pdf file in addition to video explains these steps in front of you. Furthermore, you will be able to download the excel sheet files to use it in your own projects. Following are the steps to create the cost control process:
1- Create the cost estimation sheet.
2- Add the project planned dates to the data model.
3- Link the cost estimation to the schedule.
4- update the schedule and automatically update the cost plan.
5- Update the actual costs using our smart sheet.
6- Compare the budget cost to the actual costs and find the activities with a cost overrun.
Note: in this course, we are using a smart technique to link data, I am sure that you will use our method in all your future projects:
What you will study and what you will not study in this course?
We Will Study:
- how to create a cost control process from scratch.
- how to distribute the estimation cost using the project schedule.
- how to calculate the cash in and cash out for the project.
- how to link progress update to the budget cost.
- how to update actual costs smartly.
- how to create a summary report for all projects.
- how to find activities overrun for materials, labors, equipment, and subcontractors.
- how to create a detailed cost report for all projects.
- how to create any other custom report using the data model.
- how to use the same technique of data model in all other tasks.
We will NOT Study:
- how to estimate the cost of materials, labors, equipment, and subcontractors. This is an estimation process not cost control and it is pure QS job.
- how to create a project time schedule, there are other courses on our website for that.
