Being able to read and talk the language of the country you work in, is very valuable advantage. I am wondering why non Arabic speaking Engineers do not make any efforts to learn Arabic. For example, Asian nations working in gulf developed an Arabic language to communicate with Arabic speaking people. However, they are not able to read Arabic, or to speak Arabic fluently.
Being in a challenging environment with very high level of competitions should drive you to search for what makes you special. I would then recommend non Arabic speaking Engineers to learn Arabic as advantages to their career. I witnessed a situation where an Indian Engineer was in big trouble because he signed a payment certificate which was written in English and Arabic, and the Arabic had too many mistakes. In my opinion, the Arabic language developed by Asian nations is great for communicate in normal life, not for business. When it comes to the business, Arabic language should be fluent.
The gulf market is very growing environment for Engineers from all trades. However, as I said before, you need to find yourself a place in this market by being different or special. If you are planning to work in gulf, or you are already working in gulf but you do not know Arabic, you are missing a lot.
