The purpose of this technique being incorporated into the course curriculum is to help planning engineers refine their construction planning and project management skills, like:

1. Time Management (detailed construction time schedule)
2. Resource Utilization (develop cost and resource loading)
3. Labor Management (monitor productivity)
4. Procurement (develop materials tracking log and monitor the progress)
5. Shop drawings (develop shop drawings tracking log and monitor the progress)
6. Progress reporting (different reports for different project team members)
